Fauna. Door Handles. October 09th , 2017.
Obviously, styles shapes, materials, and function have evolved over the years. The types of door handles sold today are high-tech, made to withstand the test of time. Handles are now made with better materials and workmanship so once installed, unless you wanted a different look, the handle would last the life of the home. Some people still prefer the initial type of door handle but a growing number of home and business owners are now turning to unique handles coupled with decorative hardware. With this, the door and all its components actually become a key part of the overall look. Of course, alone with the handle opening the door, security is another key element when buying. Today more than any other time in history, people are taking more intense measures to protect property and families. Because of this, manufacturers have designed a variety of different features for door handles that can provide a much better barrier of protection.
Door handles are considered as one of the essential parts of any home or office. On one hand, they have practical uses; On the other hand, they add a lot to the overall interiors of home and office creating a great look and feel. Be it kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living or dining area, nothing looks perfect without attractive handles and knobs. Since the use of door hardware have become a fashion statement, they are being widely used to add glitz and glamour to the over-all look of your home or office.
The simplest handle is a pull - or push - projection on the side opposite the hinge. The placement of the handle is generally where it will provide an optimal mechanical advantage; most doors operating as second class levers. Doors with centre pulls or rings, or a pivot point in a location other than one edge of the door, use first or third class lever principles. Depictions of door handles in paintings dating to the first century CE are centrally placed hinged rings. The modern door knocker is a vestige of this style of primitive door handle. Doors were typically secured by bars and brackets to prevent them from being opened by either intent or accident.
As door handles easily catch germs and bacteria because of the variety of individual hands that touch them in the course of a day, it is important to consider the materials used. It is believed that certain materials like brass, copper and silver discourage the growth of bacteria and germs through some kind of electro-chemical effect; while other materials like aluminum, stainless steel, glass and porcelain do not have the same action. However, this belief has remained just that... a belief: and studies have not been extensive enough to confirm or disprove this possible effect, except in the case of silver. Hospitals in particular are experimenting with handle materials as they continue their fight against infectious disease within their wards.
Brass door handles are available in variety of types, like reproduction period and antique period brass. Many other types of them are also available in the market and all of them are capable of greatly enhancing the looks of your house. However, the reproduction and antique period brass are like a premium type of brass as they are more durable and last longer than other types. This type of door hardware usually doesnt wear off easily and even when its finish fades away, it will still give an antique look and will match the decoration of your house.
